Redditch in town on Saturday

After seeing their last two games postponed, Blues will look to return to action when Redditch United are the visitors to the ProKit UK Stadium on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

Last Tuesday’s home game against Gosport was postponed for a second time due to a frozen pitch before Saturday’s trip to Farnborough was called off on Friday morning due to snow.

Redditch will make their first trip to Stortford four places and eight points clear of the Blues with 45 points from 35 games.

The midlands side went out of the FA Cup and Trophy at the first stage, losing to Stratford Town and Coalville Town respectively, although they gained revenge against Stratford to reach the last eight of the league cup where they suffered a surprise loss at Didcot.

While Saturday’s game will see the first meetings between the two clubs, Redditch were members of Conference South for a couple of weeks in the summer of 2008 before they were moved back to the North.

That “reprieve” didn’t quite work out for the Reds as the promptly finished bottom of Conference North with just nine points from 40 games, conceding 105 goals . They avoided another relegation last season despite a dismal run of form that saw them fail to win in their last eight games, collecting just three points in the process. Average crowds were also down, dropping by 20 percent to 260 but gates have picked up a bit this season and they are now averaging 285 – three less than the Blues.
