Late heartbreak for Blues

Brightlingsea Regent 1 Blues 0
AARON Condon’s 93rd minute goal saw Blues end 2018 on a low note as they slipped to defeat at strugglers Brightlingsea, on Saturday.
ryan v harlowIn a game that could be used as a cure for insomnia, Blues finished with ten men as Boxing Day’s hero Ryan Henshaw received a straight red card for a late challenge in the 76th minute.
Skipper Sam Robbins and striker Luke Callander both returned to the side, but Blues clearly missed wide-man Ryan Charles who missed the game through illness.
It took 18 minutes for either side to create a chance, with Johnville Renee’s cross being met a tame volley from Jamie Cureton that home James Bradbrook comfortably held.
Condon saw an effort ruled out for offside shortly afterwards, but aside from a harsh caution for Callander, there was little of note for either side in the rest of the first half.
A series of substitutions for Blues failed to liven things, although Hector Kyprianou was unlucky not to latch on to a pass from Cureton in the 73rd minute,
Henshaw’s dismissal for a foul on Billy Hunt looked harsh but Stortford appeared to have hunt for a point despite Calum Kitscha having to bring off a good save to prevent what would have been a spectacular own goal from Mark Haines.
But the hosts grabbed an undeserved winner three minutes into stoppage time with the game’s only moment of class when he latched onto a long ball and curled it home from just inside the area to break Blues’ hearts.
