Jamie and Sam collect awards

Jamie Cureton’s legendary goalscoring ability didn’t go unrecognised by Blues’ fans as he collected the official BSFC player-of-the-year award on Saturday evening.
The award is over 50 years old and is voted for by the club’s fans, and Cureton’s 22 goals in 36 league appearances saw him lead the Bostik Premier goalscoring charts. He added a couple of cup goals as well as the small matter of becoming joint manager alongside Steve Smith in September.
It was also a good night for Sam Robbins who scooped both the Managers’ and players’ player-of-the-year awards. Robbins joined the Blue Brazil from Waltham Abbey in the summer and the centre half provided some excellent leadership and only missed two league games, finishing with two goals in 49 games in all competitions.
Having come through the Blues’ academy, and now in his second season as a first team regular, Jack Thomas seems to have been around forever but the 19-year-old collected the Young Player-of-the-Year award after another excellent season.
The midfielder played 33 league games and a total of 43 matches in all competitions.
The Andy Barnes Memorial Award is named after the larger than life Stortford fan who died in 2007 and was awarded by his father Keith to Rodney Pegg in recognition of his hard work off the pitch for the club.
Finally, after a season chasing last minute registrations, loan deals and plenty of other things that never get mentioned, Blues’ football secretary Fred Plume was the deserved recipient of the Chairman’s Trophy.
Joint managers Smith and Cureton thanked Blues’ supporters for their loyalty during a season where we overcame a slow start to challenge for the play-offs, eventually finishing seventh and reaching the League Cup semi-final.
The awards were presented by vice chairman Darren Woollard and Ann Turner, wife of the late vice chairman and operations manager John Turner who died in September and was remembered during a successful night in the Mitre Suite.
