Blues’ 2017/18 squad

CHAD CRUSE – Defender

Signed on senior forms in January, Chad is in his second year at the Blues Academy set-up. In the first year he played in midfield but this term has been successfully playing in the left back role. He was called up for the first team for the home fixture versus Banbury United and was an unused substitute in that match and then made his debut away at Hereford when he was in the starting line-up. Chad went on to make five senior appearances for Stortford by the conclusion of last season.


Joe originally joined Ipswich Town as a 12-year-old and progressed through the Tractor Boys’ youth set-up captaining both the under-18 and under-21 teams. He made his senior debut in a 2-1 defeat FA Cup defeat at Portsmouth. In February 2016 Joe went on loan to Woking and has also had loan spells more recently at Boston United and St Albans City. His Blues debut was in the first game of the season at Tiverton Town and his first goal at home to the same side in October. Virtually ever-present last season Joe went on to make 50 appearances and in addition scored four goals.


Max made his senior debut for Stortford in a Herts Senior Cup tie away at Hitchin Town in early December. He had earlier this season played in every tie of the under 18s great run in the FA Youth Cup. Max spent seven years in the Colchester United youth set-up and also a spell in Cambridge United’s youth set-up. By the end of last season Max had made 11 first team appearances.

SAM ROBBINS – Defender

25-year-old Sam joined Stortford from Waltham Abbey in the summer. Sam began his career at Wingate & Finchley before moving on to the Abbotts. He spent the last three seasons at Waltham Abbey playing well over 100 games, mainly in central defence where his superb reading of the game, speed and tenacious attitude caught the eye of the management. Sam made his Stortford debut in a Herts Charity Cup tie in early August.


21-year-old Elliot Wright has superb pedigree, he spent over ten years at Arsenal before leaving two years ago. Elliot also represented England at U17 level and has even clocked up 10.91 in the 100 metres Essex District final. After a year out of the game via a short injury plagued spell at Waltham Abbey, Elliot is looking to get his football career back on track and joined Stortford in the summer.



Damien, who joined in the summer, is a 25 year-old central defender who originally progressed through the youth set-up at Stortford before leaving for Heybridge Swifts four years ago. A strong, tall and extremely quick defender, Damien finds himself back at his local club after spells at Chelmsford City, Witham Town and most recently Ware.


Only 17 in July, Marcus signed for the first team in last October on the back of some excellent performances with the youth team in the FA Youth Cup that took them through to the second round proper of the competition. He made his first team debut as a substitute in a 4-0 win against Hanwell Town in the FA Trophy and by the end of the season had made 5 appearances in the senior side.

LEWIS DARK Midfielder

29 year-old Lewis joined in the summer from Heybridge Swifts having captained them for the majority of last season, marshalling them to the FA Cup first round and FA Trophy second round as well at the play-offs. A combative and efficient midfield player with high work ethic and superb leadership qualities, Lewis began his career in the academy at Tottenham Hotspur before joining the Centre of Excellence at Brentford. He made his debut for the Bees against Doncaster Rovers in April 2007  and made thre Football League appearances in total before dropping into non league, spending time at Stansted, Redbridge, Maldon & Tiptree, Grays and Thamesmead amongst others.


23 year-old midfielder Elliott has returned to the club for the second time after a superb season at Witham Town in the Bostik Division One North. The Aussie playmaker notched ten goals and19 assists from central midfield last season, earning him the manager’s player-of-the-year award for Witham. A former Australian under18 international Elliott began his career with former A League club Gold Coast United before moving to England and joining Witham two years ago. Elliott was with the Blues in the 2016/17 term and made 22 appearances and notched two goals in that time.


RYAN CHARLES  Midfielder

22 year-old Ryan arrived at the Prokit (UK) Stadium from Canvey Island. He is a skilful wide-man capable of scoring spectacular goals from distance. Nicknamed “Spider”- Ryan bagged 10 goals for the Gulls last season including the winner in the play-off semi-final against Bowers & Pisea. Ryan’s previous clubs include Ipswich Town, Needham Market, Witham Town and Stanway Rovers. His Blues debut was as a substitute against Hitchin Town in a Herts Charity Cup tie in August.
