Hertford trip for Blues

Blues’ new managerial team of Steve Smith and Jamie Cureton will look to progress in the  Velocity (Isthmian League) Cup Tuesday as they make the short trip to Hertford Town.

Town have made a mixed start in the new Bostik South Central Division with six  points from five games, but went out of the FA Cup with a 2-0 loss at Corby Town having won 5-3 against Tilbury in the preliminary round.

Ten years after Town were relegated from the Isthmian League, they finished runners-up in the Spartan South Midlands League in 2017 to gain promotion. Their first year in the Isthmian League proved to be tough going as they finished 15th with 57 points from 46 games.

Considering how close the two clubs are, it’s a surprise that they have only met them three times in the last 25 years.

The last meeting saw Blues win 6-0 at Hertingforbury in the Herts Charity Cup 11 years ago. A decade before that the sides shared two 1-1 draws in the Eastern Floodlight Cup group stage.
