Disappointment for young Blues

BRENTWOOD 2, STORTFORD 1

Tim Moylette’ s Academy side came away empty handed from their opening match of the season with Brentwood’s winner coming in the seventh minute of added time.
Earlier the Blues had started slowly and fallen behind in the 4th minute when Kieran Moynihan’s cross was headed in at the far post by James Lickfold.
Stortford never really settled in the first half although Olly Miles went close with a shot just over the bar. A Moynihan shot hit the post for the hosts on the half hour and seconds later Stortford keeper Archie Lambert saved well from the same player.
Miles and skipper Jacob Bennett had efforts not far off target before the break and then for the first twenty or so minutes of the second half Stortford had the better of the exchanges.
They equalised in the 51st minute with Tolu Osiyemi sending a header past keeper Christian North from Bennett’s cross. Shortly afterwards Louis Johnson was close to giving Stortford the lead.
However, a couple of injuries disrupted Stortford’s positive flow of attacks. The Blues lost Jack Booker with a knee injury and then central defender Jamie Riley had to come off due to a groin strain. Brentwood’s late winner came after a corner from Adam Dighton and George Cooper scrambled the loose ball over the goal-line.
