Blues win at Urchins

curo v hornHORNCHURCH 0 BISHOP’S STORTFORD 1
Jamie Cureton’s 13th minute goal was enough to give Blues their 15th league win of the season, on Saturday.
It was the veteran’s 16th league goal of the campaign and kept up the visitors’ outside hopes of the play-offs.
In a first half where chances were few and far between, it was Hornchurch who created the first opening on four minutes when Remi Sutton started the move on the left, and played the ball inside to former Blue Lewwis Spence, who in turn sent a pass through to George Purcell. Purcell crossed and Sutton, who had followed up, sliced his shot wide.
Essex Leopards v Nottingham Hoods, 13th Oct 2018Stortford replied with a dangerous ball in from George Craddock, which Remi Sutton shepherded behind for a goal kick.
A minute later Olly Miles won the ball in the middle, played it wide and Ben Warman sent a perfect cross for Cureton to curl his shot wide of Callm Chafer and into the net.
With both defences on top, it was not until the 26th minute when either side could penetrate the opposing defence again, when good interplay between Sutton and Charlie Stimson ended when Arthur Janata cut out Sutton’s cross.
Stortford broke back upfield and Cureton squared the ball to Mason, with Chafer doing well to save the shot with his feet.
a1Three minutes from the interval a Joe Christou corner was played back to him, and he sent over a cross that was cleared but only as far as Sean Marks, whose first time volley came back off the crossbar.
In the final minute of the half a stinging shot from Spence was deflected for a corner, which Jack Thomas cleared, only for Sutton to surge forward past the defence, but his shot was straight at Janata.
Blues could have doubled the lead in the 56th minute when a shot by Alfie Mason was well defended by Sutton. A minute later Stortford sent on Luke Callander for Olly Miles.
Marks then volleyed wide from Alex Bentley’s cross, and with 15 minutes left Purcell sent over an excellent cross, but Stimson headed over the bar.
a1Hornchurch kept up the pressure, when, two minutes later, a Purcell shot was blocked, leading to a frantic scramble in the goalmouth, with Jack Thomas eventually clearing the ball upfield.
With a minute left in normal time Johnville Renee was booked, and then followed six minutes of time added on for stoppages, and Stortford held out, firstly when Janata pushed a Purcell shot away for a corner, and again when Bentley swung the ball into the middle, but Marks could only direct his first time attempt over the bar.
