Blues v Lewes – preview

There’s another test of Blues’ play-off ambitions on Saturday as fourth placed Lewes visit the ProKit (UK) Stadium, kick-off 3pm.

Following Wednesday’s 3-0 home win against Corinthian-Casuals, the Sussex side are one spot behind Stortford with 30 points from 17 games.

They had a seven game FA Cup run, although it ended in the third qualifying round, with three home replay wins – including an 8-1 victory against Molesey – before they bowed out with a 3-0 loss at Bath City. They also had wins in the FA Trophy against Ashford Town (Middx) and Merthyr Town before losing (another) replay at Hemel Hempstead Town.

A trip to Lewes on Easter Saturday (nicely placed in late April) looks to be one of the highlights of the season for the travelling Blues’ fans. Having said that, no one particularly enjoyed last year’s 2-0 FA Trophy loss at the Dripping Pan.

We last met in league action in the 2010/11 season and a pair of narrow wins for the Blues helped send Lewes down from Conference South. Five seasons in Isthmian Premier were ended when they went down in 2016 but after a ninth place finish the following year they finished as runners-up last season, scoring 93 goals and taking 99 points.
