Blues to host U’s on Saturday

IT doesn’t get any easier for Blues as they continue their pre-season friendlies with the visit of Cambridge United, on Saturday.

Having lost 3-1 to Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday before facing Southend United last night, Adam Flint’s side are expected to face a full-strength Cambridge side at the Prokit (UK) Stadium.

Kick-off is 3pm, with admission prices cut to £6 for adults and £4 for concessions. Accompanied under-12s are free.

The U’s finished last season strongly following the dismissal of manager Shaun Derry, with new boss Joe Dunn leading them to 12th spot in League 2 with 64 points from 46 games and wrapping up the campaign with a 5-0 hammering of Port Vale.

Their League Cup “run” ended at the first stage as an understrength side went down 4-1 at Bristol Rovers, while in the FA Cup they beat National League highflyers Sutton United before losing at Newport County.

This season has started well for the U’s, and they scored goals for fun in their early games with big wins at St Neots (7-1) and Cambridge City (8-1) before winning 4-0 at both Royston Town and Chelmsford City.

They followed up by drawing 2-2 in a 120-minute match at Charlton Athletic and won 3-0 at Braintree before conceding two late goals to go down 2-0 at home against Millwall. Midweek saw them split their squad for visits to Ebbsfleet United and Dageham & Redbridge, conceding two late goals to draw 2-2 at the former before winning 2-0 in east London.

It will be Abbey Stadium club’s first visit to Stortford since July 2014 when the sides fought out a goalless draw.
