Blues look to slay Dragons

kl6BLUES face the second of three straight away games when they travel to Basingstoke Town, on Saturday.

Blues will looking for their third league double of the season when they visit the Carlsberg Stadium as goals from Freddie Moncur and Dipo Akinyemi gave them a 2-0 win when the sides met in October.

In common with Stortford, their participation in the FA competitions was brief, suffering losses against Hartley Wintey and Dorchester Town in the Cup and Trophy respectively.

Saturday’s 2-1 win at Biggleswade Town saw the Dragons move up three places to 13th and they consolidated that spot with a with a 1-1 draw at Banbury on Tuesday, and they now have 42 points from 31 games

Having hit 11 goals in two games against strugglers Gosport Borough and also recently beaten high-flying Tiverton Town 6-2 they have a positive goal difference of 17, they have the best record outside the top ten of the Evo-Stik South Premier.

The two sides have met on numerous occasions in both Conference South and the Isthmian League, with the last meeting in Hampshire seeing a 1-1 draw in August 2015.

An unbeaten run in their final six games saw them move up the table to tenth following their surprise relegation from the Conference in 2016. That relegation came a year after reaching the Conference South play-offs, and saw crowds drop by 20 percent to a 401 average, but the club’s finances have taken a dive with their owner wanting the money back he loaned to fund that.

They had announced that April’s home game against Hitchin Town would be their last at Camrose before it was sold for redevelopment, but they have since announced that they will remain at their home for at least another season
