Bishop’s Stortford 6-0 Enfield Match Report 8/10/19

 

Bishop’s Stortford beat tenants Enfield 6-0 at home in a friendly on Tuesday night, thanks to four goals for Shomari Barnwell.

Enfield come into this match on the back of winning a seven-goal thriller on Saturday against local rivals Sawbridgeworth, with Olly Miles and Alfie Mason scoring.

Player-manager Jamie Cureton also started that match but was sent off early on for a high boot challenge on former Blue Frankie Oatham.

The only trialist in the starting XI for the Blues was #9, who had several chances, including one that hit the inside of the post but somehow didn’t cross the line, while he also attempted an overhead
shot but didn’t make contact with the ball.

Barnwell opened the scoring after Enfield failed to clear their lines, with Barnwell cutting in on his right foot, the goalkeeper couldn’t stop it.

Mason soon doubled the lead, making a run through the middle he shot low past the goalkeeper from the edge of the box.

Three minutes into the second half, Alex Warman got on the scoresheet, the midfielder made a great run into the box to meet Ryan Charles’ through ball, and he shot first-time into the bottom corner.

Charles was involved in the fourth goal too his deflected shot was saved quite brilliantly by the Enfield goalkeeper, but he could only tip it onto the post and Barnwell was on hand to convert from
close range for his second of the match.

Barnwell completed his hat-trick inside the last 10 minutes, beating the keeper to the ball with a glancing header over him, from a deep cross from the left.

His fourth came from a speculative effort that looped over the keeper’s head courtesy of a deflection off a defender.

The Blues are at home to Horsham on Saturday full of confidence in front of goal after tonight’s match, and keeping a much needed clean sheet.
