Blues 3 Histon 2

b2Blues completed an unbeaten pre-season campaign with a 3-2 win against former Conference rivals Histon, on Saturday.
A frantic first half hour saw Jamie Cureton on target twice as the sides shared four goals before Ryan Charles sealed a fourth win in seven friendlies with a well-taken 78th minute strike.
It took just 116 seconds for the Cureton to open the scoring for the Blue Brazil as Cureton coolly knocked the ball home at the back post after a superb cross from Aaron Greene.
Within five minutes Histon were level when Evan Key – son of Stutes’ manager Lance – rose above the home defence to head home.
b2It took barely a minute for Stortford to restore their lead as an unmarked Cureton latched on to a loose ball to fire into the top of the net.
b6The impressive Greene left the action with a knee injury shorty afterwards as he twisted to put another teasing cross into the box.
b5The visitors levelled again in the 21st minute as the Blues’ defence was static, allowing Harradine to fired past Fred Burbidge from close range.
Skipper Sam Robbins went close before Cureton was agonisingly close to completing his hat-trick as he fired Johnville Renee’s pacey cross over the bar, and he also saw an effort cleared off the line.
Luke Callander was unlucky not to put the hosts back in front just before the break as he broke free in the box before firing wide, but the striker became the second Stortford player to leave the action as he was replaced by Olly Miles.
b6Renee twice went close for Blues early in the second half, seeing one effort flash wide and another blocked.
As the game looked set to peter out for a draw, Blues snatched the win in the 83rd minute. Ben Sampayo’s superb through ball split the Stutes’ defence and “Spider” Charles perfectly chipped Dylan Pierce to seal the win.
