It had been a different story early on with Stortford having had the chances to go in front, but after former Blue Elliott Buchanan had given the visitors the lead they never looked back as they wrapped up a league double against the home side.
Blues went into the fixture weakened by not having Ryan Charles, suffering with illness, and Johnville Renee who was unavailable while Ryan Henshaw was starting his suspension following his sending-off at Brightlingsea a week before. Olly Miles came into the starting eleven for the first time in a league match.
The Blues finished the game well beaten but it could have been so different if they had made the most of their chances early on.
At the other end Calum Kitscha saved well from the visitors’ Alfie Doughty as both sides made a hectic start. In the 20th minute Rob Tolfrey saved with his legs from Luke Callander and the Blues’ striker was denied again by the keeper four minutes later with a save at the near post.
However, the South London side were getting on top in midfield and it came as no great surprise when they went ahead in the 37th minute with Buchanan shooting past Kitscha following an attack from the left involving several players.
The visitors then had a perfect start to the second half with Louie Theophanous allowed too much time to shoot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box within two minutes of the restart.
Buchanan had a goal ruled out for offside and Robbins cleared off the line from Theophanous in the 65th minute before a mistake in midfield allowed Shaun McAuley to run free on the right and beat Kitscha with an angled low shot for the third goal in the 73rd minute.
The visitors finished the contest with ten men as Josh Huggins was shown a red card eight minutes from time for a rash tackle on Jack Thomas near the halfway line.
The result meant that the visitors completed a league “double” over the Blues.
