Andrew Cornell looks back of Blues’ games on August 3rd
Just the one competitive game on this date in 2010 saw us visit Broxbourne for a Herts Charity Cup game, our first ever visit to this part of Hertfordshire, although we had hosted the same club, in the same competition at the same stage the previous season.
The hosts had the first chance in the 10th minute when a right wing cross by Lawal Alhadi was scooped wide by Freddie Dolan at the near post.
Reece Prestedge was heavily involved as always. He forced a parried save from home keeper Alan Buck on 23 minutes and was booked five minutes later for a foul on Lee Brennan. However this just spurred him on and the deadlock was broken on 44 minutes. A defence splitting 40 yard pass from Jason Mason was controlled by Duane Jackman who made space and then set up Prestedge to score from 18 yards.
Into the second half and Blues soon built on their lead. On 52 minutes a delayed clearance from Buck rebounded off the challenging Jackman and into the corner of the net to make the score 2-0.
Theere was little further action until the 82nd minute when Max Lettejallow finished off the home team. A neat move on the right saw substitute Steve Smith find Lettejallow with a good ball and a fierce shot made it 3-0.
