Ben signs up

Blues have strengthened their defence with the addition of full-back Ben Sampayo.

It will be the 27-year-old’s second spell at the ProKit UK Stadium having played nine games for the Blue Brazil in 2013 while on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.

He is expected to be in the squad for Saturday’s home game against AFC Horn church.

Sampayo came through the Chelsea youth system , and was an unused substitute in both legs of the club’s FA Youth Cup final victory against Aston Villa in 2010

He was released upon the expiry of his contract in June 2011 and immediately joined Brighton’s development squad, along with former Chelsea teammate Anton Rodgers.. He made his first team debut for the Seagulls in a 1–1 draw with Wrexham in an FA Cup third round match at Falmer Stadium on 7 January 2012 and 14 months later joined Stortford on loan. He was released by Brighton in the summer, having played only one game for the club.

He signed with Chelmsford City in August 2013 and made six Conference South appearances for the Clarets before being released in October.[He played in a behind-closed-doors friendly for Carlisle United in December 2013 before getting a professional contract with Scottish Championship side Greenock Morton the following month. He picked up a cruciate ligament injury in a reserve team game at Cappielow Park, and was released by the Scottish club and subsequently struggled to prove his fitness to prospective clubs.

He played for Brentwood Town and Heybridge Swifts in 2016/17 before a brief spell with East Thurrock United last season. This year he has played for Aveley in Bostik North.
