Leatherhead 3-1 BSFC

Leatherhead 3-1 Bishop’s Stortford Match Report 8/2/20

Bishop’s Stortford suffered a fourth consecutive loss, and remain winless in the New Year with a 3-1 defeat at Leatherhead. Craig Calver scored his first goal since returning to the Blues, Tanners – who won 0-1 and had manager Nicky Bull sent off in the reverse fixture in November

Jordy Mongoy was making his first start for the Blues after coming off the bench against Worthing on Tuesday, and he made an impact in the first minute, crossing from the left wing but it was over hit for his teammates in the middle. Johnville Renee whipped in a free kick from the left, and from Zaki Oualah’s punch, Jack Folan missed the ball completely and just volleyed the air on the edge of the box. Jerry Nnamani had the first chance for the hosts, volleying over the bar after Travis Gregory’s probing run down the right. Sam Blackman should have broken the deadlock minutes later, he had a free header from Brown’s Cross but somehow put it wide. From the next attack came the opening goal, with Wimbledon loanee Robinson given too much space, he picked out the top corner with ease past Fred Burbidge. Visibly brimming with confidence, Robinson attempted an overhead kick off a cross that went behind him, but it wasn’t a clean contact and he kicked it out of play. Oualah was forced to make a good low save from Calver’s curling effort, before the keeper palmed Ryan Henshaw’s header onto the bar before it was scrambled clear. Gregory found himself in a promising position on the right, but his cross went straight to Burbidge, before Blackman’s shot landed on the roof of the stand behind the goal.

Half time 1-0

has they did the first half, the Blues started the brighter, with Jack Thomas and Renee combining to feed Mongoy, but his half volley went high of the target. From the goal kick, Rowe picked it up near the halfway line, took it into the box and beat Burbidge at the near post to make it two. But Calver reignited the contest just minutes later, pouncing on a defensive error to shoot past Oualah across the goal. Nnamani headed wide from a free kick, before Oualah wasted some more time by moving the ball back before a free kick an inch at a time, yet the referee was not interested in booking the keeper. Blackman volleyed off target, with Leatherhead adamant that Burbidge had got a touch on it and wanted a corner. The decisive goal came from the next attack, with Brown heading home from Rowe’s Cross. The Blues looked to go a bit more direct to force a way back into the match, but Debrick’s cross towards the big man went straight into Oualah’s hands. Barnwell managed to win a corner, before Oualah petulantly kicked the ball away to waste more time, and after that corner was cleared, the referee blew for full time.

Full time 3-1
