Leatherhead 0-0 Bishop’s Stortford Match Report 29/1/22

 

Bishop’s Stortford were held to a goalless draw at bottom-of-the-league Leatherhead on Saturday. The Blues were reduced to 10 players for the last half an hour with Darren Foxley receiving two bookings, but moved up to third in the Pitching In Isthmian League Premier Division due to Lewes’ defeat. The Tanners picked up only their second point at Fetcham Grove this season, while Stortford kept a first clean sheet in three games.

 

Aaron Lamont had a shot from a free kick near the edge of the box but it sailed over Jack Giddens’ crossbar. Giddens took a free kick from near the halfway line into the box, and his opposite number Adam Desbois totally misjudged it in the air, missing his punch and taking Mitchal Gough in the process, with Cameron Black required to clear from the vacant goal line. From the resulting corner, Billy Cracknell saw his back post header blocked on the line, and Jonny Giles curled one from the edge of the box but Desbois saved. Darren Foxley was booked for blocking a quick free kick in the Leatherhead half, before Giles pulled a low effort wide of the right upright, and Foxley’s cut back was cleared before Marlow could make contact. Anthony Church brought down a Foxley cross to set up Jack Thomas but his shot was blocked. Ryan Henshaw’s header from Giles’ free kick was blocked, and his volley on the rebound was saved by Desbois for a corner.

Neither substitute Chris Harris nor Foxley could latch onto a low cross from Giles, and from the second attempt by Giles, Leatherhead scrambled clear. Foxley saw a powerful shot from the left side of the box parried for a corner, before he received a second yellow for a strong shoulder challenge on a Tanners defender. Black and Marlow were subsequently booked for involvement in a melee after the incident. Johnville Renee was on hand to provide a double block at the back post following a deep cross, before Frankie Merrifield saw a long range effort palmed away by Desbois for a corner at full stretch. Leatherhead substitute Antonio German found himself free in the box to head home but nodded over the bar from a right wing cross, before Renee dribbled forward from right back and into the box but saw his shot rebound off the inside of the right goalpost. German had a late chance to win it after a through ball by Joshua Bohui, but he shanked his shot wide as neither side could break the deadlock.
