Haringey Borough 2-1 BSFC

Haringey Borough 2-1 Bishop’s Stortford Match Report 16/11/19

Bishop’s Stortford suffered a sixth straight defeat after conceding an injury time penalty to Haringey Borough.

Jamie Cureton ended his league drought as he cancelled out Romuliwa Akinola’s opener, before substitute Chidubem Onokwai scored from the spot late on.

Dimitri Froxylias started on the front foot, shooting wide from range before Anthony McDonald fired over from the next attack.

Shomari Barnwell cut in from the right and forced Valery Pajetat into a good save low down to his left.

Debutant David Manu was impressive, beating his full back to cross to Barnwell who could only volley wide.

Cureton crossed from a wide free kick, it was cleared to Jack Thomas who volleyed over, before Manu tested Pajetat from long range.

Ryan Henshaw was given acres of space to let fly from range but it went wide, before Manu tried another long range shot that Pajetat was equal to.

After dominating the first half with a much better performance than those that went before, the Blues found themselves 1-0 down, when Akinola tapped home from close range after a cross wasn’t cleared.

It was nearly two minutes later, when Froxylias headed against the post before Thomas cleared.

Stelius Dimitriou and Manu both curling efforts go wide, before Henshaw did brilliantly to see the ball roll back to Fred Burbidge in goal with Anthos Solomou through on goal.

The Blues regrouped and had a good spell of possession in the oppositions half, before Alex Warman forced Pajetat to make a diving save.

A counter attack from the following corner saw Henshaw throw his body on the line to block a shot from a deep cross.

Henshaw was involved in the equaliser, his long ball was collected by Barnwell who fed Cureton to volley home from 12 yards.

Manu had another long range shot, before Thomas was required to make a last ditch tackle to deny Onokwai on the left wing.

Akinola produced a poor cross which flashed wide of the post in a period of late dominance for the hosts, before Froxylias grazed the post with a shot.

A rare attack for the Blues in the latter stages saw Barnwell receive the ball from substitute Ryan Charles, but the big man’s shot lacked power and Pajetat claimed easily.

Then came the heartbreaking winning goal, when Henshaw nicked the ball away from Onokwai, the Boro man threw himself to the ground in the process, before converting the spot kick to get Coles Park rocking.
