BSFC 1-1 Carshalton Athletic Match Report

Bishop’s Stortford 1-1 Carshalton Athletic Match Report 4/12/21

Bishop’s Stortford’s unbeaten run extended to 13 games, but it was a second successive draw after Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Carshalton Athletic. In the Blues’ last home game of 2021, Johnville Renee broke the deadlock in the first half, before Lewis White bagged the equaliser after the break.

White was a danger throughout the match on either wing, and it looked as though he would give the Robins an early lead with a low shot from the edge of the box following a corner, but it hit the inside of the post and rebounded away from goal. Ben Marlow’s cross from the right wing just missed Jack Thomas and Jonny Giles in the middle, before Renee stabbed home from close range when a deep free kick from Giles wasn’t cleared. Darren Foxley saw his long range strike go over the bar, and Daniel Bassett worked some space to cross with a smart piece of skill, but his low cross was cleared by Billy Cracknell. Jack Thomas won the ball back with an energetic high press on the right wing, he then cut the ball back to Marlow, whose shot looked to be goalbound but Lloyd Thomas made the save. Captain Ryan Henshaw won two headers following a corner, before Jake Cass saw his low shot on the turn saved. Giles had a chance at the end of the half to double the lead, the last kick before the break was his low shot from the left side of the box, which whistled just wide of the right post.

HT 1-0

Most of the main stand though Cass had found the back of the net with a shot early in the second half, but his volley grazed the outside of the side netting. Abdu; Sankow stung the palms of Jack Giddens with a powerful effort from the left wing, before Bassett poked wide from a White through ball after the winger had cut in from the right. Henshaw was required to make a goal-line clearance, and the build-up of pressure for the visitors forced the equaliser, with White sweeping home at the near post from Bassett’s low cross off the right. Bradley Williams tried a first-time volley from the edge of the box, but his shot cleared the stand behind the goal, and Marlow was beaten to the ball by Lloyd Thomas on the end of substitute Ryan Charles’ cross. Frankie Merrifield returned off the bench after missing Tuesday night’s visit to Merstham through illness, and linked up with Chris Harris, as he chest-controlled a cross into Charles’ path whose shot was deflected wide. Henshaw saw his long range half-volley shot blocked, before Bobby Price’s low cross at the end of a counter attack went straight to Giddens. The chance to win it fell to Harris, Merrifield switched the ball from left to right to Charles, but his heavy touch fell kindly to Harris in space in the box, but he could only curl wide from 12 yards. Harris still had time for another half chance, a looping header from Charles’ cross, but Lloyd Thomas caught it with ease.
