Bowers & Pitsea 2-0 BSFC

Bowers & Pitsea 2-0 Bishop’s Stortford Match Report 12/11/19

For the second time in two matches, the Blues were beaten by bottom three opposition, most recently in a 2-0 loss to Bowers & Pitsea on Tuesday night.

The Blues couldn’t find a breakthrough for their early dominance, with Olly Miles heading goal-wards before Shomari Barnwell’s cross to Miles was slashed away for a corner inside 10 minutes.

Aaron Greene made a powerful run from left back, and found Ryan Charles in the middle of the box, but a heavy touch saw the ball cleared.

Alfie Mason, who regularly switched wings with Charles, chopped inside from the right hand side, but his curled effort was blocked.

Fred Burbidge, who celebrated his 20th birthday on Monday, was required to make a top class save at the other end, when Callum Leahy’s deep cross was headed back across goal for Max Cornhill to head home from close range, only for Burbidge to deny him with a brilliant reaction stop.

And from the following corner, Burbidge tipped the on target header onto the bar, before Leahy tapped home from Oliver Sims free kick, after Greene had given away a soft foul on Quentin Monville on the right hand side.

Bradley Warner had a chance to double the lead soon after, but his low shot from range hit the outside of the post.

Perhaps the best chance of the half fell to Barnwell, who was cruelly denied by the corner bar from an overhead kick goal from Greene’s cross.

Half time 1-0

Ben Sampayo made a quick start to the second half, shooting from long range and forcing Callum Chafer into a diving save in the opening minute.

Warner more or less killed the game, tapping home from close range from a left wing cross to all but deny any chance of the Blues getting back in the match.

Cornhill had a good chance for 3-0, but somehow miscued wide from close range when it looked easier to score, before Warner dribbled through the defence but shot wide of the right post.

Jamie Dicks tested Burbidge with a free kick, before Warner shot over the bar on the end of a quick counter-attack.

The visitors dominated the latter stages of the match, but only had a couple of chances to show for it, first Miles’ header was tipped over the bar by Chafer, before the 18-year-old turned wide from the following corner.

Full time 2-0

Blues travel to Haringey Borough on Saturday 16 November, before a visit to Margate on Tuesday 19 November.
