Michael Watson MBE At The R&D This Saturday!
We are delighted to announce that we will welcome British boxing legend Michael Watson MBE as our guest of honour at this Saturday’s Pitching In Isthmian Premier opener against Haringey Borough at the R&D Advisors UK Stadium.
The former Commonwealth Middleweight Champion and three-time World Title challenger joins us to enjoy the action and will be selecting the Man of The Match. Michael will also present the award in the Mitre Suite after the game.
Michael’s promising career was tragically cut short as a result of a near-fatal injury sustained during a loss to Chris Eubank in a bout for the WBO Super-Middleweight Title in 1991.
Since then Michael has been an inspiration to those inside and outside of the sporting world, raising huge amounts for charity including completing the London Marathon in 2003, raising money for the Brain and Spine Foundation.
In 2004 Michael was awarded an MBE by the Queen for services to disability sport. He also served as a torchbearer in the London 2012 Paralympic relay.
We are thrilled that Michael has chosen to join us at the R&D Advisors UK Stadium on Saturday and hope he can cheer the boys on to an opening day win!
