GM Update: End of 2022

Dear Blues Supporters,

As 2022 draws to a close, I wanted to take this opportunity to express the pride I take in our market town football club’s immense achievements, going back all the way to our memorable 3-0 victory over Cheshunt on New Years Day at the very start of the year.

After winning our fixture against Hornchurch at The R&D Advisors UK Stadium on Boxing Day earlier this week, The Blues confirmed their unbeaten home record in regular league fixtures for the calendar year. This echoes the immense efforts of the squad, who had already broken club records by the end of 2021/22 by recording 11 consecutive clean sheets between February and April, and also by going 1088 minutes without conceding a goal! At the other end of the pitch the squad managed 100 goals in all competitions last season, and more generally, had the club’s best performing season in 41-years! We’ve seen some outstanding performances from the Blues in the past year; it truly is an exciting time for the club.

As such, myself and management team at the club consider keeping this squad together for the 2022/23 season a real sign of the team’s potential for success. Although it’s not the prize we’re chasing, we’ve worked hard to spend the majority of this calendar year in 2nd place, having practically remained in the position since we first claimed it last season. That said, everyone at the club dreams of winning this league — a feat that’s definitely possible thanks to the incredible people in this community working all-hours at the club to support the squad and the management team. I am especially grateful to the club volunteers who give up their time to make the football club the institution that it is.

Everyone at the club knows just how badly we wanted to win the Play-Off Semi-Final in May, against Cheshunt of all clubs, but the fact is this, we were the second best team of the league over 44-games, and we didn’t deserve the cruel end to our season that we suffered. Hopefully the players have already shown to you, our supporters, their ambition and determination to right that result since the league restarted in August.

Being league runners-up and play-off semi finalists are massive achievements, but the club is doing everything we can to take those achievements one step further and launch BSFC into the Conference N/S. Indeed, we are deeply grateful to our new sponsors who have joined the team since the start of the season, as their support is vital to the further prosperity of the football club. It would be difficult for me to outline all the steps forward the club has taken in the last year, such are the efforts that have been made. However, I am delighted with the improvements made around The R&D Advisors UK Stadium to the bathrooms and catering areas. Thanks to our Buildbase grant the ground is looking fresher than ever, and with the help of our new catering partners Host, matchdays in Stortford have never been so tasty!

I must also mention the continued success of the Bishop’s Stortford FC & Birchwood High School Football Enrichment Programme, as it continues to produce community leaders and future first team players. There will be an open evening in the new year where we will be able to share more information about the future of this partnership as we look to recruit more academy prospects for next season.

We are incredibly excited for everything 2023 has in store for this football club, and can’t wait to share the journey with you, the Blues fans. On behalf of the management team, the first team players, the academy and the club staff, thank you for all your support this year!
