Bishop’s Stortford 1-4 Chorley Match Report

Vanarama National League North

Hamish Arnold

For the second game in a row Bishop’s Stortford opened the scoring but were unable to keep hold of the lead, losing 1-4 against Chorley at the RDA Stadium on Tuesday.

Aaraon Greene dribbled in off the left wing and picked out the bottom right corner from 20 yards inside six minutes as the Blues stunned the Play-Off chasing Magpies. From the next attack, Greene dribbled into the box and fired a low shot across goal, but the defender blocked his shot. Greene crossed from the left wing towards Darren Foxley at the far post but Adam Henley headed clear. The left back then netted the equaliser, he wasn’t picked up in the box and received the ball from a pass from midfield, curled the ball right-footed into the bottom right corner. Captain Jack Sampson had beat the offside trap and was one-on-one with Jack Giddens, but the Stortford skipper denied him with his legs, before Hazlehurst fired wide on the rebound. Hazlehurst was then allowed to dribble down the right and cross to the far post, where Mark Ellis headed the visitors into the lead.

HT 1-2

While the Blues were in the game in the first half, it was the Magpies who controlled the game after the break. After taking the lead they showed their quality in seeing out the game, although they did add two further goals. Amadou Kassarate fouled Michael Calveley in the box for a penalty, which Justin Johnson slotted home into the bottom left corner. Calveley then nodded home a right wing cross that had been flicked on in the box and not dealt with, finding the net from close range. Academy player George Lusardi made his home debut for Stortford late on in midfield, with manager Steve Smith citing his match experience one of the few positives to come from the result.
