Bishop’s Stortford 1-4 Potters Bar Town Match Report 1/10/19

 

The Blues suffered a fifth successive defeat as Potters Bar Town won 1-4 at the ProKit UK Stadium.

In the driving rain early on, chances were few and far between, but the Blues were holding their own in the first half with Aaron Greene repeatedly beating his full back and provided crosses from the left, one which fell to Ryan Charles whose shot was blocked, and another that won a corner.

Jack Thomas gambled on a poor punch by R’avan Constable to shoot on the half-volley, but he saw his effort go high of the target.

Jamie Cureton, Johnville Renee and Jack Thomas combined for a great attack down the right, that resulted in Charles shooting but it was blocked by a well-organised defence.

The Scholars eventually made the breakthrough against the run of play with Josh Hutchinson sweeping home after Ben Ward-Cochrane cut the ball back to him from the bye-line.

And soon after the break they doubled their lead as Bradley Sach was on hand to tap in after ex-Blue George Craddock’s shot squirmed out of Fred Burbidge’s grasp.

Three goals in six minutes followed, as Potters Bar Town first increased their lead when Craddock powered home after the Blues couldn’t clear their lines.

Shomari Barnwell then made an instant impact off the Blues bench, scoring with a looping header at the back post from his first touch of the match.

But just as the Blues looked to have a glimmer of hope, Ward-Cochrane was gifted a tap in from Hutchinson who played an unselfish pass across goal for his team-mate to score.

Hutchinson himself could have had a hat trick from his late chances in the match, including a scorpion kick attempt that trickled just wide of the post.

The Blues drop down to 17th in the league, with a week and a half’s wait until the next match when Horsham are the visitors on 12th October.
