Bishop’s Stortford FC scores in £100K Buildbase bursary

Builders’ merchant Buildbase has awarded £10,000 worth of building materials to Bishop’s Stortford FC.

Following the club’s application to the Buildbase Non-league Club Renovation programme, Bishop’s Stortford FC, will be awarded building materials to renovate its facilities.

Bishop’s Stortford FC will use the bursary to give its 20-year-old toilet block a complete makeover. The walls are painted brickwork and require plastering, the lighting is poor and the sanitary ware looks tired. The work will be undertaken with the help of the club’s volunteers and specialist skills from a sponsor.

The club’s Director and General Manager, Shan Toms explained:

“During the pandemic the ground was used as the main vaccination centre for the region and although we had a clean vaccination suite our welfare facilities were not the best advert for the club.

“Like the majority of clubs we have experienced two tough years, so this bursary will enable us to carry out well overdue works so we are absolutely delighted to have been selected for this amazing grant, thank you Buildbase.”

The local Harlow Buildbase branch will be supporting the club with information, advice and supplying the building products required for the project.

Martin Bull is Buildbase Procurement Director and was part of the judging panel. He said: “We had a huge response to our renovation competition this year. Bishop’s Stortford FC did a fantastic job of explaining how the bursary would be used and the effect of that on the wider community as well as on their ability to run as a business. We look forward to seeing how the project plays out over the coming months.”
