Bishop’s Stortford 1-2 Tamworth Match Report

Bishop’s Stortford 1-2 Tamworth Match Report 14/11/23

Vanarama National League North

Hamish Arnold

Tamworth scored in the sixth minute of injury time to take three points from the RDA Stadium against Bishop’s Stortford in the Vanarama National League North. Mbunya Alemanji’s first Bishop’s Stortford goal gave the Blues the lead, but only for four minutes as Nathan Tshikuna equalised, before Manny Adebowale’s own goal with the last kick of the game handed the win to the Lambs.

Adebowale had the first effort of the match, with his header from a corner that was blocked on the goal line, before Alemanji was thwarted by a late diving save by Jas Singh to keep the striker out. Gio McGregor picked out Alemanji with a lofted pass but he couldn’t quite reach it for a sliding finish at full stretch. Adebowale deflected Kai Williams’ shot wide, with the visitors forcing two goal line clearances of their own from the following corner. A chipped shot from the left nearly found the top right corner and was tipped over the bar by Singh, when Charles had spotted the goalkeeper off his line, but he backtracked well to make the save.

HT 0-0

Tosin Olufemi blocked and cleared on the line from Jamie Willetts’ header from a corner, before Singh saved a low shot from McGregor, but only into the path of Alemanji who was in the right place at the right time to break the deadlock on the hour mark. The lead didn’t last long as Tshikuna equalised with a curling shot from 20 yards into the top right corner. Substitute Ollie Peters’ first touch off the bench was a half-volley which went narrowly over the bar following a half-cleared corner. Darren Foxley conceded a free kick inside the centre-circle which Singh kicked long, it was allowed to bounce in the box and under-pressure from Tshikuna, Adebowale diverted the ball into his own net off the post.
