Academy Update!

The Bishop’s Stortford  Academy team enjoyed a successful season in Division C of the National League U19 Alliance albeit that it finished with seven games still to play. The League Committee determined that the final table should be based on an average points per game basis which saw Stortford finish a commendable 6th having played 13 games, won 5, drew 4 and lost 4. They scored a total of 35 goals (which was the fourth highest in the division) and conceded 34. There were some strong teams in the division with greater resources including teams associated to Luton Town of the Championship and Norwich City of the premiership. Luton Town won the league and remained undefeated throughout. Stortford were one of only three teams to take a point off Luton when they drew 3-3 at Woodside Park early in the season. It was definitely a case of what might have been as Stortford were leading 3-1 with only 10 minutes to go! Luton actually reached the semi-final of the National Leagues Cup competition before losing 2-0 to Chester City which evidences the strength of opposition in this division. Other highlights of the season include Stortford’s 5-4 win at home to Norwich City, their 9-2 home win over Boreham Wood and a convincing 3-0 away win at Maidstone United. The lowest point came away to Luton whose sheer physical size and overall ability proved too much for Stortford who went down 7-0. A Stortford player did however finish joint top of the individual goal scorers chart thanks to Olly Miles who scored a very commendable 14 goals from his 13 appearances.

The Academy management team are already taking steps to prepare for next season, whenever that may start! The League held it’s AGM last week and Stortford have been accepted along with another 117 clubs for the upcoming season. The leagues are regionalised and we should be made aware of the teams in our division by the end of this week. There is likely to be at least one new team in the division as Brentwood Town have dropped out. Chelmsford City and Enfield Town have joined the league so one or both of those teams could find their way onto the Stortford fixture list. The games are all scheduled to Kick off at 2pm however this can change by agreement between the teams and with the approval of the league. If there is a change of KO time then this will be advised on the club website. Home games will be played on a Wednesday afternoon at the Prokit Stadium and those wishing to come and watch will be more than welcome. Rearranged games may be played on different days however this will be advertised in advance. Once we know the teams in our division, the fixture list and have the governments and FA’s permission to start the season this information will be posted on the clubs website.
