Woe for young Blues
An 87th minute penalty from Sean Clare was scant consolation for Blues as they went out of the FA Youth Cup with a 2-1 home defeat against Hitchin Town, on Wednesday.
The Blues dominated long periods of the game, and should have been 3-0 up before Hitchin scored from a well-worked corner just before half-time and repeated the trick shortly after the restart to take control.
Clare’s late spot-kick gave them hope, and they had a good shout for a penalty turned down a minute later, but the Canaries held on to seal a place in the next round.
Blues return to Conference Youth Alliance action next Wednesday afternoon when they travel to face Hitchin looking for quick revenge while on Saturday October 4 Stortford under-21s host Chelmsford City, kick-off 2pm.
