Williams to miss Hitchin game
Williams has scored 12 Evo-Stik South goals for Kevin Watson’s side but he starts a two game ban following his second red card of the season in last week’s county cup loss against Hitchin.
The Canaries have proved to be Stortford’s bogey side over the last year, with four victories in cup games.
They won the Herts Senior Cup final against the Blues with a 2-1 victory at Hemel Hempstead and repeated that scoreline at the ProKit (UK) Stadium in September’s Herts Charity Cup semi-final.
Williams was sent off after the final whistle in October’s league cup loss at Top Field and he again saw red as a Stortford team that contained three 16-year-olds went down 3-0 in the second round of the Herts Senior Cup last week.
While the sides have become familiar with each other in cup competitions recent, Tuesday’s game will be the first league meeting since the 2003/4 season in what proved to be both club’s final year in the Isthmian League.
A goalless draw against second placed Kettering Town on Saturday saw the Canaries keep up their play-off push, and they head into Tuesday’s game in seventh place with 38 points from 23 games.
Tuesday will mark the second half of the season for both teams, and despite Blues having the day off on Saturday they remain in 19th spot with 26 points from 23 games.
