Waders trip for Blues

Jason Williams is available again after a two-game ban as Blues travel to Biggleswade Town for another Evo-Stik South Premier fixture, on Boxing Day.

Blues’ leading scorer missed the home games against Hitchin Town and Dorchester following his dismissal against Hitchin Town in the county cup but he is likely to be in the squad as Stortford travel to Biggleswade in a league fixture for the first time

Soccer-SantaWhile Blues were moving up to 17th place with a 1-0 win against Dorchester on Saturday, the Waders’ 1-1 home draw with Banbury United saw them remain in 14th place spot 33 points from 25 games. When the sides met on August Bank Holiday Monday Blues ended a run of four straight losses to take their first point of the season with a goalless draw.

After a replay with against North Leigh, they went out of the FA Cup at the hands of National League South side East Thurrock United, while their hopes of getting to Wembley in the FA Trophy were abruptly ended with a 5-0 home loss against Wingate & Finchley in the first qualifying round.
It’s a relatively quick trip up the M11/A14 for Blues, and the Waders’ second season at step 3 saw them record their highest ever position although with 22 points from their last nine games to move up the table suggest that they were never seriously in the promotion race. Despite one crowd of just 80, their average attendance went up by 5percent to 193 at the eight-year-old Carlsberg Stadium.
