Rod: “There’s still work to do”

Blues boss Rod Stringer knows there’s still plenty of work to do as his side have reached the mid-point on the pre-season campaign.

Stortford went down 1-0 at Needham Market last night, and Stringer knows it’s still a work-in-progress for his side:

“We had a decent run-out last night, and it’s not about results” he said. “We have the nucleus of a decent side, but there’s a lot of work to be done and I believe we need three or four important signings.

“I’d like to be a bit further on at this time of year, but it won’t happen overnight. Players will try to get more money elsewhere, and managers will keep them hanging around until the final week of pre-season.

“Needham are two leagues lower than us, and they’ll do okay, but they had some players who I couldn’t afford to bring to Stortford.

“We’re working hard to add to the squad, but it’s not easy and we’re still looking for a centre-half and I think we need someone else up to give us more of a threat.

Blues host AFC Hornchurch on Thursday evening, kick-off 7.45pm, with admission for adults £6, concessions £4. Accompanied under-12s are free.
