Stringer’s up for Trophy test
Blues boss Rod Stringer is excited about the challenge of facing Vanarama Conference high-flyers Torquay in the FA Trophy at the ProKit (UK) Stadium on Saturday.
“I’m looking forward to playing the Gulls, and I think it’s a good draw for us. Getting a home draw was the important thing. We’ll be facing an ex-League club, and we’ll be up for that. They’ll want to bounce straight back after relegation last season but that’s easier said than done.
“Steve [Pitt} went to see them against Barnet last Saturday, so we have an idea what we’ll be facing and we’ll take it from there. They had a good win against FC Halifax on Tuesday, but it’ll be a different game on Saturday. If we play like we have in patched against Chelmsford and Bromley, we’ll be okay
“You always want to either play someone decent or have a winnable home game. They’re not the biggest club in the Conference – that’s Bristol Rovers – but it’s an exciting game for us. In a way, the Chelmsford game was more difficult for us because it won’t take an effort to raise our game for this one.”
Stringer is still struggling to get a full side out on the pitch, with defenders George Allen and Ashley Miller likely to be missing while skipper Anthony Church is still out of action. Recent addition Lee Weemes is cup-tied so has gone on a dual registration loan to Heybridge Swifts while Daniel O’Reilly’s time at the club proved to be fleeting and he has been released.
On the plus side recent signing Cheye Alexander has produced two fine performances in place of Miller and new striker James Walker did well in the final 15 minutes against Bromley and looks set to make his home debut.
Saturday’s tie at the ProKit (UK) Stadium will see normal matchday prices and arrangements in place. Admission prices are adults £12, concessions £7, students (with ID) £6, under-16a £5, under-12 free with an adult.
If the score is level at the end of 90 minutes the replay will take place at Plainmoor on Tuesday December 16, kick-off 7.45pm with the same matchday prices.
