Stringer’s delight at win
Rod Stringer was delighted as his Blues side moved up to ninth spot in Vanarama Conference South with a 1-0 win at Farnborough on Saturday.
“It’s great for the boys to see us fly up the table, and all we’ll drop down next week when we don’t play, it’s a big boost.
“It was a battle out there, but people stood up to be counted. We made a couple of mistakes, but for once we didn’t get punished. It’s a clean sheet, and that’s a positive for us.
“It wasn’t the prettiest of football matches, but pretty football won’t get us through. It’s a case of working hard, doing the right things and getting the goals. Neither side had loads of clear-cut chances, but it was quite entertaining with a lot of battles on the pitch, but we did what had to do.
“Any win is a good win, they’re in a similar position to us money-wise – although getting Jamie Slabber in on loan wouldn’t have been cheap – but three points away from home is excellent for us.
“We lost Churchy (Anthony Church) with a hamstring, but it allowed us to change things a putting Rod [Young] up front gave us some pace. We took him off near the end as it was getting physical and, as with the Bromley game we brought Phil Anderson on to tighten things up.”
