On paper the Blues have a reasonable start to the season with 5 games being played in the first fortnight of our return to the south. There’s a new league sponsor, new balls but the majority of teams we know well. First up is Bath City who were mid table last season. They have had a poor pre-season only winning one game against some lowly opposition and with a 3 year plan in place to clear historic debts they may not be expected to have the strongest of sides this season.
Boreham Wood had a good season in 2012/13 finishing 9th, in pre-season they beat Luton Town and have signed ex Blues and Chelmsford City defender, Ben Nunn.
Sutton Utd finished just outside the play offs last season and are tipped to be contenders this season. They have kept much of last seasons squad and have added a couple of pedigree players in Dale Binns and Craig Dundas. They haven’t had a great pre-season but losing against sides from Arsenal, Fulham and Chelsea is to be expected. Sutton Utd will probably be aur toughest test in the first 5 games and will be a good barometer of how we could perform against the favourites.
Bromley have had a strong pre-season beating the likes of Welling, Millwall and Dartford. Great things are always expected of Bromley but last season saw them finish 15th, Manager Mark Goldeberg needs to deliver. Look out for old Blues midfielder, Ashley Nicholls.
Maidenhead round off our opening fortnight of football in The Skrill South, they finished 19th last season, just beating relegation and have had a mediorce pre-season where they have only beaten teams from the lower leagues.
