Rod ready for the Stones

Blues open their home Vanarama Conference campaign on Tuesday when newly promoted Wealdstone are the visitors to the ProKit UK Stradium, kick off 7.45pm.

The Stones won the Ryman League Premier Division last season, finishing 11 points clear of Kingstonian to return to the Conference 26 years after they last played in the competition. They opened their league campaign with a 1-1 draw against Eastbourne Borough in front of more than 700 fans. Like ourselves, the Stones had a full pre-season fixture list, winning four and drawing two of their ten games.

Blues’ boss Rod Stringer knows that his team face a tough test on Tuesday: “It’s a bit early in the season to really know what to expect from the Stones, but I know Gordon Bartlett from previous years, and he always puts out a decent side.

“They’ll have a bit more experience than Weston did on Saturday, but if we can raise our game a bit as we’re at home, I believe we can take all three points. I think that the way we are set up as a team will lead to teams struggling to break us down, and they’ll run out of ideas. That was a big part of the win at Weston, and I hope we can do the same thing on Tuesday.”
