Rod praises match-winner Mikel
Blues boss Rod Stringer had praise for goalscorer Mikel Suarez who netted the 60th minute spot kick that gave his side a 1-0 win at Farnborough.
Cherrywood Road was the scene of the horrific eye injury suffered by Suarez two years ago that saw the former Tonbridge Angels’ forward in a coma for nearly a week.
And although Suarez has no memory of the incident, he was cool as ice on Saturday as he netted following a foul on Ashley Miller.
“Mikel took the penalty well” said Stringer. “He brings a lot to us, and although some people think he does enough, his work-rate is tremendous and he regular takes a battering without complaint.
“He’s not like your typical Spanish player, he accepts the physical side of the game, and gets on with it.
“He missed Tuesday but we brought him back on Saturday because we needed his physical presence, and he did a good job for us.”
With a fortnight’s break before the next league game, Stringer’s men will face Crystal Palace under-21 on Thursday evening, kick-off 7pm. Admission is free with a bucket collection to raise money for the Blues’ wage bill.
