No return for Allen

Stortford manager Rod Stringer appears to have given up hope of re-signing defender George Allen as he continues his team-building for the 2014/15 season.

“Unfortunately it doesn’t seem that it’s going to happen” said Stringer after Saturday’s 4-0 win at Burnham Ramblers.

“One minute he’s coming, and the next minute they want him to play at a higher level. I understand that but we can’t wait forever. It’s a shame as I’d like him back and I thought what we did last season helped George as a player, but I need to get someone in as soon as possible.”

Defender Allen spent all of last season on loan at the ProKit UK Stadium from Stevenage, making 45 appearances, but Stringer has now turned his attention finding a player to replace him:

“We won’t panic, and I’m sure there will be a lot of player movements and people will become available. When you’re on a budget you can’t shop in Harrods, but we’ll certainly be strengthening the squad.”

Blues return to the ProKit UK Stadium to face Cambridge United on Wednesday, kick off 7.45pm.
