Luke’s back for Blues

Blues have strengthened their forward line ahead of Saturday’s home game against AFC Hornchurch with the re-signing of striker Luke Callander.

It will be the fourth time that the 32-year-old has teamed up with Steve Smith having played for him at both Heybridge Swifts and Chelmsford City before moving on to AFC Sudbury and subsequently jining the Blues.

Having joined from Whitton United, chalked up 92 goals in only 144 appearances for Swifts, and scored a brace against Blues on Boxing Day shortly after signing for the Clarets in November 2013.

Callander signed for Sudbury in March 2015 and during his time with the club, helped them win promotion from Ryman North to the Ryman Premier, scoring 24 goals on the way.

In total, he has made eighty-seven appearances for Sudbury and scored an impressive 40 goals before switching to Stortford midway through the 2016/17 season.

The mass exodus that followed our relegation saw him join Heybridge Swifts last summer, and he played – briefly before clattered by a “traillist” in a friendly at the ProKit UK Stadium this season.
