Looking forward – Blues v Canaries

pb1We’ve already seen a lot of Hitchin Town this season – some may say too much – who are our visitors to the ProKit UK Stadium on Tuesday.

But the five times we’ll play the Canaries this season pales into insignificance compared to the 1971/2 season when we played them a staggering  eight times.

Four of these matches were in the F A Amateur Cup third round which went to three replays. After a 1-1 draw at Rhodes Avenue the replay at Hitchin finished 2-2. Four days later the teams met again at Hertford Town with another 2-2 draw. The tie then moved onto St. Albans where Hitchin won 1-0.
We had our revenge in the East Anglian Cup fourth round when we won 3-1 at Hitchin after another 1-1 draw at Rhodes Avenue. We also met in the Isthmian League with both teams winning their respective home matches.
Blues’ fan Andrew Bubien has looked back at programme from the first match and the single sheet that was produced for the third replay in the F A Amateur Cup.
