Hitchin Town 3 Blues 0

Blues suffered their third cup exit of the season against Hitchin as they were made to pay for a poor first half, on Monday.

While Blues’ boss Kevin Watson will be disappointed with the Herts Senior Cup defeat, of greater concern will be another red card for Jason Williams, and his side’s top scorer now faces another lengthy ban.

Watson made several changes to his regular starting lineup with Darren Foxley, Feminine Akinyemi and Saturday’s goalscorer Jordan Westcott starting on the bench and the club’s FA Youth Cup heroes getting their first starts.
The visitors started slowly with goalkeeper Tyler McCarthy keeping them on level terms and George Casey clearing off the line.
But Hitchin took the lead in the 29th when Trey Charles headed home from a corner.
Within five minutes the hosts had doubled their lead when Charles poked home Connor Vincent’s cross and before Blues could draw breath it was 3-0 as Vincent netted after a rare mistake from McCarthy.
Williams and Casey both went close as the visitors started the second half well and the home side were reduced to ten men midway through half well when Ben Smith received a straight red card for a stamp on Dean Ager.

But any chance of a comeback were almost immediately ended as Williams picked up a yellow card in the resulting melee and was then dismissed for a foul on Webb.
Substitute Akinyemi went close with Blues’ best effort of the game but that was as good as it got as Stortford’s last chance of silverware was ended.
Blues: Tyler McCarthy, George Casey, Alex Rogers, Joe Robinson, Jack Thomas, Max Brassington, Joe Ryan (Jordan Westcott 70), Alfie Mason (D Akinyemi 70) Jason Williams, Dean Ager.
