Five on the bounce for young Blues
BISHOP’S STORTFORD 3, IPSWICH WANDERERS 0
(THE NATIONAL LEAGUE UNDER 19 ALLIANCE – DIVISION C)
Tim Moylette’s Academy side chalked up their fourth straight win with a comfortable victory over Ipswich Wanderers to sent them into the Christmas break in good spirits.
Skipper Frankie Oatham had a header cleared off the line early on after a corner and when another Blues flag-kick wasn’t cleared by the visitors in the 18th minute Oatham was fouled in the box by Jordan Fleming and Charlie Riley rifled home the resultant penalty.
A few minutes later Jo Vieites-Stephenson struck a shot from long distance that rebounded off the bar and the lead was eventually doubled in the 37th minute when Toluwani Osiyemi embarked on a long solo run from the right before blasting an angled shot into the far corner.
The match followed a similar pattern after the break with Stortford having most of the possession. However, the half was largely uneventful until towards the end.
Wanderers’ keeper Bailey Fairweather made a good blocking save in the 75th minute from Matt Kemp after initial good lead-up work by Jacob Bennett. At the other end Blues stopper Aron Martin was called into action almost for the first time when he pulled off a fine save to keep out a shot from the edge of the area by George Ablitt in the 81st minute and then six minutes later saved well again to deny substitute Michael Hammond.
Blues substitute Ted Dean had a shot saved by Fairweather but in the last minute of normal time he netted the third goal converting a cross from the left from Matt Kemp at the near upright after some good work in the approach play by another substitute Oliver Travell.
