ht1Correy Davidson’s early goal wasn’t enough as Blues went down 2-1 against Hitchin Town in Tuesday’s Herts Senior Cup final at Hemel Hempstead.

A 325 crowd saw the Irishman go close with an early effort before chipping Michael Johnson from 20 yards to put the Blues ahead after eight minutes.

ht5 Kevin Watson’s side produced a much performance than Saturday’s capitulation at Weston-super-Mare and Davidson saw another shot cleared off the line after great work by Evans Kouassi.

Harry Voss and his defence were kept busy, though, with Burns, Smith and Donnelly all going close and the Southern League promotion challengers levelled in the 34th minute when Blues failed to clear from a corner and Will Wright fired home from close range.

ht2Blues were under the cosh for long periods in the second half, and what proved to be the Canaries’ winning goal came in the 72nd minute with a virtual carbon copy of the first as Wright netted.

Luke Callander saw a header flash wide four minutes later and even Voss was in the penalty area late in the gams as they poured forward for a corner but Hitchin held on to inflict Blues’ seventh straight loss.

Blues XI: Voss, Richefond, Williams, Taiwo, Adebowale, Rogers, Davidson (Kabeya 85), Hickford (Ronto 49), Callander, Kouassi, Greene (Ford 43). Unused sub: Harris.
