19th Feb : Result: Bishops Stortford Ladies 2 Harvesters 3 (Scorers: Anna Thomas & Jemma Good)

The Ladies faced their toughest challenge of the season when they hosted top of the table Harvesters today, who had won every game they had played in the league this season. We didn’t have the best of starts when we conceded straight from a corner in the 4th minute. We got back level from a corner of our own when Jemma Good’s corner was headed home by Anna Thomas. We then went behind again just a minute later but the score was 1-2 at half time. We created some excellent chances in the second half and played the better football by far but just couldn’t get back level. We then went further behind in the 71st minute when a shot went in off the crossbar.

In the 85th minute, with both teams involved in an absorbing contest, Stortford’s Katie Sanders-Smith went down under a strong challenge. She was in a lot of pain and an ambulance had to be called. After receiving treatment, Katie was taken off to hospital and the game continued, but there was very little time left.

Almost immediately, Jemma was put through on goal and the League’s top scorer made the scoreline 2-3. Further chances came and Stortford were the better team by far now. Unfortunately they just ran out of time, but this was a tremendous effort by the ladies. Final Score 2-3.

Player of the Match was Sara Robson, for an outstanding display in midfield.
