Blues sparkle on Bonfire Night
There were goals galore at the ProKit UK Stadium on Wednesday as Blues Academy and under-21 sides hit 12 without reply.
The Academy side were first on, and hit seven against Burnham Ramblers to record their third Conference Youth Alliance victory of the campaign.
Jack Isherwood hit a first half hat-trick for Tim Moylette’s team, with Ben Smith hitting a brace after the break and Rene Leacock and Arron Thomas joining them on the scoresheet.
Less than five hours later the under-21s made it five wins from six Essex & Herts Border Combination games with a 5-0 win against Clapton.
The young Blues scored early on in the 1st half following a short corner neatly worked between Raphael Duah and Frankie Merrifield resulted in the former lashing the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the box.
Blues then created a constant stream of chances for the next 20 minutes or so but much to everyone’s frustration failed to take any of them and gradually Clapton worked their way into the game and created a couple of half chances that required last ditch defending to prevent an equaliser.
Stortford’s scored a fortunate second goal when John Nzengo cleverly beat his man and his deep cross from the right sailed over the keeper into the far corner.
The Blues went in at half-time leading 2-0 but in the knowledge they should have scored several more, and they started the second half at a higher tempo and were soon creating chances but also finding numerous ways to not add to their tally.
Fifteen minutes into the second half they finally put the game to bed when a mazy Jay Lantieri dribble resulted in a desperate foul, and from the resulting penalty Lantieri calmly put the ball away for a 3-0 lead.
The fourth followed shortly after when Lantieri spotted the opportunity to take a quick free kick and from his resulting cross Lewis Hagland rose well to head home.
The final goal was the result of good work down the left between Baughurst and Ashford, with Ashford delivering the perfect cross for the hard-working Merrifield to score a deserved goal having dropped down from the 1st team to gain some much needed minutes on the pitch.
Blues: Jones, Hayes, Baughurst, Mastin, Sardinha, Green, De Olivieira, Weller, Ashford, Merrifield, Hagland, Duah, Lakin, Nzengo, Lantieri.
Blues under-21s return to action on Saturday November 15 Old Parmiterians in the Herts Intermediate Cup, as BSFC return to the competition after nearly a decade.
