SheldonSBISHOP’S STORTFORD 3 CONCORD RANGERS 1

Blues registered their first Conference South win in over two months as the in-form Beachboys were sunk at the ProKit UK Stadium on Saturday.

The major factor for Stortford’s success was the return from injury of both Anthony Church and Ashley Miller and the debut in defence of newly signed Rickie Hayles from Lowestoft Town.

The game started a high pace, and Steve Cawley’s header in the fourth minute nearly put the visitors ahead before the former Blues player also blazed wide in the 19th minute when it seemed easier to score.

Anthony-Church-272x220He was made to pay a minute later when Blues took the lead as a free-kick from Sheldon Sellears somehow getting past keeper Josh Vickers. The hosts’ lead was doubled eight minutes later when Sellears’ corner wasn’t cleared by the Rangers defence and an offside-looking Anthony Church poked the ball over the line.

Concord pushed forward strongly after the restart but found Stortford’s back line much tighter than of late and although Steve King and Tony Stokes went close to reducing the arrears the home side made sure of the points six minutes from time when substitute James Walker netted with a shot on the turn from eight yards.

The Beachboys kept pressing to the end and netted a consolation goal in the first of seven added minutes with Stokes scrambling the ball in from close range.
