Blues to host high-flyers

Blues face the first of three successive home Saturday games when Basingstoke Town are the visitors to the ProKit UK Stadium, kick-off 3pm.

Rod Stringer’s side will be up against a Basingstoke team who have started the season in fine form and sit third in the table with four wins from six games.

The visitors will include former Blue Liam Enver-Marum in their line-up, and Stortford fans will be interested to see how he plays against his old team. A frustrating time at the ProKit UK Stadium saw him net three times in 11 league games but his move to Basingstoke just before the transfer deadline saw his hit a rich vein of form with eight goals in nine games.

This season has proved to be more frustrating with one goal in their first six league games – all of which he started – and has picked up four yellow cards in the process.

Blues added pacey forward Rod Young to their squad on a four month loan from Welling United on Friday and the former Norwich City striker made an instant impact as he linked up well with Mikel Suarez , so hopefully there will be plenty for Stortford fans to shout about on Saturday, and Stringer is hoping for plenty of support:

“Hopefully we can put a few smiles on people’s faces. I know there’s been a few moans about the performances and talk about different systems, but it’s equally frustrating for the coaching staff.”

NLD-final-logo-01The two games against Basingstoke last season couldn’t have been more contrasting. Town visited Stortford just before Christmas, and in appalling conditions the Blues ran out 5-3 with Enver-Marum and Cliff Akurang each hitting a brace. The return in April proved to be utterly dull as the sides shared a goalless draw.
