Blues 0 Hatters 3
BISHOP’S STORTFORD 0, LUTON TOWN CEDARS 3
(THE NATIONAL LEAGUE UNDER 19 ALLIANCE – DIVISION C)
Blues’ Academy side were unable to put a dent in the Hatters’ quest for the league title as they ran out comfortable winners at the ProKit UK Stadium, on Tuesday. .
Luton went ahead in the 13th minute when Stortford failed to clear a corner from the left and Freddie Wilkinson had time to net from eight yards past keeper Archie Lambert.
The hosts’ first opening didn’t materialise until midway through the first half with a low effort from Olly Miles just inside the box held by stopper George Paulin.
A header from Miles was wide soon afterwards following a Charlie Riley corner on the right whilst a shot on the turn from Matt Kemp wasn’t far off target.
However, the visitors doubled their lead in the 31st minute with a penalty after Riley was judged to have fouled Magloire Muyembe in the box and Muyembe’s spot-kick beat Lambert’s dive.
First team regular Miles didn’t continue after the break due to a slight hip problem.
Lambert made a fine save around the hour mark to stop Muyembe finding the net again but Luton scored their third goal of the afternoon in the 63rd minute from Bryn Rigarlsford’s corner on the right and when Finbar King collected the ball near the angle of the box his low shot found the net just inside the near upright.
A 20 yard shot from Louie Johnson in the 73rd minute narrowly cleared the bar but otherwise Tim Moylette’s side created little threat and the visitors nearly scored again before the end when only a reaction save by Lambert turning a far post header from Sam Scott over the bar prevented another goal.
