Blast from the past

After the excitement of all this: and the massive publicity that followed Blues’ 2-2 draw at Middlesbrough, it was time for the replay at a packed-out Rhodes Avenue. The official attendance was 6,000 but there was clearly more in the ground, and I remember ducking under the barrier and sat pitch-side with the photographers.

Both BBC and ITV sport cameras where there (no Sky or BT back then) and despite going down 2-1, Blues put a fantastic performance. Lyndon Lynch gave Blues a first half lead, and with the prospect of a home fourth round game against Notts County it looked like we might write another page in our history.

Of course it didn’t quite happen as Boro scored twice in the second half but it was still a memorable night for the club.
