Workington Man of the Match

Well done to Ritchie Jones who picked up first spot in the man of the match vote with 36%. Midfield engine Alli Abdullahi was in second spot and debutant Matt Johnson obviously impressed the fans picking up third place.
A league table of man of the match winners is now available on the stats page.
Blues Cruise

The Blues cruised in to the semi finals of the Herts Senior Cup after a reasonably even matched first half. Callum Stewart opened the scoring in the first half but the Blues were pegged back by a well taken Sawbridgeworth goal. In the second half mistakes cost Sawbridgeworth dearly and George Artemi made it 2-1 with a great header from a Matt Johnson corner. Then the Blues were awarded 2 penalties on the trot which Scott Shulton and Dwight Gayle both netted. Artemi secured his brace with
another well taken goal which slipped through the keepers body. Sawbridgworth got a consolation penalty to make the final score 5-2.

Last Gasp Penalty Saves The Day

The Blues nearly lost at home today to a Workington side that took an early lead through a fluke overhead kick in the 16th minute and then seemed content to site on a slim lead for the remainder of the game. The Blues had been on fire in the first 15 minutes with 3 good chances to score.

The Blues continued to pile on the pressure but whilst neither goalkeeper had much to do, the Workington defence were saving their keeper's blushes with some stalwart defending. Workington had 1 shot in the second half which Jordan Archer tipped over superbly. As 90 minutes were clocked up Gayle was brought down in the box and he calmly stepped up to slot home the penalty and his 17th league goal of the season.
With last week's visitors Harrogate Town losing 5-2 to Altrincham the Blues went up a place in the league to 16th.
